Summer Session FAQ - International Visiting Students

Who is eligible to enroll in Summer Session for-credit courses?

Summer Session courses are open to currently enrolled Duke undergraduate students, DKU undergraduate students, and undergraduate students at other accredited universities (i.e., not seeking their degree at Duke). Select Term 2 Summer Session courses are open to academically advanced, rising 11th and 12th -grade high school students.

Can international students enroll in Duke Summer Session?

Term 1 – International students can attend Summer Session online. We will not be processing visa requests for Term 1.  While many courses will be offered in-person, a selection of online courses will be available.

Term 2 – If you wish to come to Duke in-person you must submit your application by April 1, and when instructed, submit your required I-20 application documents by April 15. You must take 2 courses and one of those two courses must be in-person. Please contact kprice@duke.edu with questions. Note: U.S. law does not permit you to attend Duke Summer Session using a tourist visa (B-1/B-2)

Can international students already studying in the US attend Duke Summer Session in-person?

If you are currently attending a U.S. institution, it is likely you will be able to participate in Duke Summer Session using your current student visa. However, you will be required to complete the Duke Visa Services web form and provide copies of your official documents. Please contact kprice@duke.edu with questions.
