The Independent Study option in the summer is designed for Duke undergraduate degree students only. Please see the information on the Academic Requirements page for detailed information about the process and required forms. You should contact the academic department of interest to initiate the process as soon as possible. Notes: 1) Some departments may have additional forms and requirements; and 2) Undergraduate Research Support (URS) Independent Study grants up to $400 are available to help defray the cost of supplies or equipment or to support travel for the purpose of data collection or access to a unique resource. The course registration process, including the submission of required paperwork, must be completed by the end of the third day of each summer term (the end of the drop/add period). Independent Studies may be undertaken in the 6-week session of either Term 1 or Term 2.
