Admissions Overview

Eligibility Requirements

Admission into Duke Summer Academy is competitive; however, there are no minimum grade requirements. Instead, we carefully consider each component of your application in our review. We look for students who have strong character, a commitment to service, and a history of academic excellence. Students who are currently enrolled in grades 9 to 12 grade are eligible to apply.

English Proficiency

There is no English language exam requirement for Duke Summer Academy. You should, however, be proficient in listening, reading, and speaking English, as we will not provide English as a Second Language (ESL) support.

Visa Requirements

International participants (i.e., non-U.S. citizens or non-U.S. permanent residents) will not need and will not be eligible for a student visa. They will instead need a B-1/B-2 visa. Speak with a representative from your local embassy to determine the proper documentation and steps to obtain this visa. We encourage you to apply for your visitor visa early as it can be a time-consuming and lengthy process.

Selection Process

We review applications on a rolling basis. Your application will be reviewed as soon as you have submitted all of your supplementary materials (see Application Directions for more information). You are responsible for ensuring that your application is complete. Applicants typically receive an admissions decision within three weeks of submitting a complete application. Because seats in popular courses fill up quickly, we strongly encourage you to apply early in the application process to increase your chances of getting into one of your top course choices.
